Travel Day

Sunday, May 6, 2012

So far this has been an adventurous day!!

It all started at 6:00am EST. I hit my alarm off barely knowing what was going on.

We left the hotel around 8:00a.m. After a quick stop at McDonalds we were off to the Columbus airport. I got there at least two hours earlier than Alyssa Blatherwick and Lindsey Petrel, but that’s what happens when your mother is a planning freak.

While mom and I waited we walked through the gift shops and ran into Zach Anderson, a fellow Cedarville student.

Everyone else finally got to the airport around 11am. Lindsey and Alyssa went to check their bags. Everything was running smoothly until Alyssa’s bag weighed 63 pounds instead of the maximum 50lbs.

The Blatherwick family rushed to stuff and stow Alyssa’s things into different bags. While they were reducing the weight, Lindsey and my family insisted that we go through security without Alyssa.

Sometimes I forget one of the most annoying things of flying: security. Lindsey and I unpacked and undress and walked through the body scanner. She made it out, but apparently I looked like a terrorist because I received a pat down.

After the pat down Alyssa showed up and the three of us successfully made it to the gate to G54 and bored our flight to St. Paul.

Everything was running smooth except for the airplane. Turbulent were traveling with us the whole time.

Finally the plane arrived in St. Paul.
PROBLEM: time 2:07 – flight at 2:30

Time to run!!

As everyone was leaving the plane I thought through how I was going to get off the plane. I figured I would let everyone a head of me go first, but then the lady in front of me need to get in the overhead compartment, which I was sort of blocking. As soon as I realized that I rushed past so that she could get in. She didn’t like that. She saw it as me trying to “cut” her. So when I rushed she rushed faster and hit me with her oversized backpack. I apologized for her mistake. She said, “You’re not sorry, if you were you wouldn’t have cut. You’re old enough to be polite now” So I quickly went into the next row of seats to let her pass.

LESSON: always let the people in front go first

We found the gate we needed to go to. We needed to get there fast, but we weren’t sure the fastest route to take. Luckily an airport worker showed up and pointed us in the right direction then he said good luck and hurry.

Hurry we did!!
(I got a great calf workout)

However, as soon as we got to gate F6 we found out that the flight was delayed.
Delayed until about 5pm, but was great because that meant we wouldn’t miss our flight from St. Paul to San Francisco.

Our new problem was missing the flight from San Francisco to Hawaii. Lucky for us the plane from San Francisco to Hawaii had mechanical problems.

We finally arrived to Hawaii around 10p.m Hawaii time. So about 2a.m. Ohio time. As soon as we got to the Puu Kahea Conference Center we were ready for bed.

It was a LONG day, but we made it to “PARADISE”!!
